Roundtable to Validate Findings on Textile Waste Treatment

On 6 October 2026, a roundtable meeting was held at the Swisscontact/SIPPO office in Skopje to validate the findings of an analysis of industrial textile waste in the Republic of North Macedonia. The analysis was conducted in cooperation with the Textile Cluster, with support from SIPPO.
During the meeting, the key findings were presented, including estimates of the quantities of industrial textile waste generated, a comparison of the costs of incineration and recycling, and customs procedures related to waste treatment.
Through discussions and an exchange of experiences with representatives of textile companies, participants examined the current challenges in textile waste management and explored opportunities for more efficient and sustainable practices.
The aim of the roundtable was to verify the accuracy and relevance of the findings by engaging industry stakeholders and to identify potential next steps towards improving industrial textile waste management in the country.
Such consultations are an important step towards better understanding the needs of the textile sector and identifying solutions that support more sustainable resource management, greater recycling opportunities, and the transition to a circular economy. The Textile Cluster continues to support cooperation between industry stakeholders and relevant partners to advance sustainable practices in North Macedonia’s textile sector.
