A look at the present and the future of the textile industry in Macedonia

The textile industry in the cross-border region has an important role for the economies of both countries, provides significantly high export earnings and contributes to sustainable regional employment. The industry has potential for growth, but there is no young, innovative and creative workforce. While textile companies have significantly improved working conditions and adhered to the principles of good corporate social responsibility, students are still unaware of this and see no potential for future employment in this sector.
The purpose of this event, which was preceded by a visit to production facilities by primary and secondary school students, as well as mentoring with the designer Irina Tosheva, was to establish cooperation between education and the business sector in order to show the potential of the textile and fashion industry. would attract students after school to become part of these branches.
"By stimulating the creative expression of young students and with the great support of their professors, we were able to develop models that showed that young people have great potential for involvement in the textile sector," said Natasha Sivevska, director of the textile cluster.
Students from five high school textiles worked on collections made of textile waste: "Dimitar Miraschiev" (Stip), "Aco Ruskovski" (Berovo), "Mile Janevski Dzingar" - (Makedonska Kamenica), Vanco Prke (Vinica) and " Metodi Mitevski-Brico ”(Delchevo) and the students from the Faculty of Technology at the University“ Goce Delchev ”(Stip).
The initiative started in December 2019, and ended with a fashion show that took place this Saturday in Stip. During the event, guests could also see an exhibition of fashion sketches made by students, inspired by the "Contemporary Textile Industry".
For quality realization of the event, the Home for Youth in Stip, the music duet "Marija and Goran" actively participated and supported, which delighted the audience with its live performance, as well as the long-time supporter of the textile cluster winery "Tikves".
"Farmasi" took care of the make-up of the models in cooperation with the Art Beauty School, and "Studio Kat Kat from Stip" was responsible for the hairstyles.
