Start of the NEW project IPA Cross Border Program Bulgaria / North Macedonia

"Modern Textile Industry as Attractive Career Path for Young Generation and Contributor for Economic Development and Social Prosperity of Cross Border Region  July 2019 - September 2020" 

  • This project will influence the cross border region Bulgaria Macedonia in many ways. First, it will support the development of the apparel and textiles industry that otherwise plays significant role into the overall generation of the domestic product, industry output and export, on both sides of the border. Moreover, it will support the desired image of the textile industry that follows the strict regulations and requirements of the EU in terms of the quality, good working conditions and reliable provider of high quality products. The project will promote the potential for growth of the textile industry in the region since the major textile trends are matching its competitive advantages of the region, in terms of the closeness to the major retail centers in Europe, in terms of the modern equipment and the readiness to accept small and customized orders. Vibrant modern and market oriented textile sector in the region will have broader impact on the overall social environment. It will alleviate the problem of economic migration from the region and will strongly contribute to the overall well being of the population in the cross-border region on the both sides.

Textile industry is important pillar for economic development within the cross border region. The industry includes more than 120 companies from both sides of the border, employing more than 30% of the labor force. The growing global competition, have put the industry in front of many challenges like the reduction of the labor market, deterioration and existence of unfair competition. The textile industry in the region shows ability for fast response and adaptation on the clients’ needs. And its vitality and agility is considered as big advantages of the cross border region. However, the sector suffers from the lack of young and educated workforce, as one of the biggest constrains for developing competitiveness of the industry. Due to these problems there is a need for joint performance of all industry stakeholders in terms of developing common industry image, through cooperation, training of stakeholders and joint market approach. The project proposes solution of the above-mentioned problems by fostering regional image of industry that is socially and ethically responsible. Working meetings, workshops forums and printed materials will promote the textile industry in the region. The project will also continue the activities on the regional Quality Mark Trusted Balkan Apparel, will support the industry modernization and prepare policy paper Textile Industry 2050, will produce Atlas of the textile industry and induce active collaboration of all stakeholders
